TMJTherapy
Effective treatment for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders — relieving jaw pain, headaches, clicking, and facial discomfort.
What Is TMJ Disorder?
Find Relief from Jaw Pain
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the two hinge joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull, located just in front of each ear. These complex joints, along with the surrounding muscles and ligaments, are responsible for every movement your jaw makes — chewing, speaking, yawning, and laughing. When the TMJ or the muscles controlling jaw movement become stressed, inflamed, or misaligned, it results in a condition collectively known as TMJ disorder or TMD.
TMJ disorders are far more common than many people realize, and the symptoms can range from mildly inconvenient to genuinely debilitating. The good news is that most cases respond very well to conservative dental treatment. At Dentistry on Norfolk South, Dr. Khurana assesses the underlying causes of your TMJ symptoms and creates a personalized treatment plan — typically involving a custom oral appliance, bite adjustments, or a combination of approaches — to provide lasting relief without the need for surgery.
Key Benefits
- Jaw pain or tenderness, especially in the morning or after prolonged talking
- Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds when opening or closing the mouth
- Frequent headaches, particularly at the temples or behind the eyes
- Facial pain or muscle fatigue extending to the neck and shoulders
- Difficulty or discomfort when opening the mouth wide, chewing, or yawning
Why Choose This Treatment
The Advantages
Non-Surgical Relief
The majority of TMJ disorders respond to conservative, non-surgical treatments. Custom oral appliances and bite adjustments can provide significant and lasting relief without invasive procedures.
Reduced Headaches & Pain
Many patients experience a dramatic reduction in chronic headaches and facial pain once the underlying jaw tension and misalignment are addressed through targeted TMJ therapy.
Protects Your Teeth
Bruxism (teeth grinding) is a major contributor to TMJ disorders and causes significant tooth wear. A custom night guard protects your enamel while relieving pressure on the joint.
Personalized Treatment
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for TMJ. Dr. Khurana takes the time to accurately diagnose the cause of your symptoms and create a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs.
Is This Right for You?

During your consultation, Dr. Khurana will assess your individual needs and determine if this treatment is the right fit for you.
Schedule a Consultation- Patients experiencing chronic jaw pain, soreness, or fatigue that worsens with chewing, talking, or upon waking in the morning
- Anyone who notices clicking, popping, or grating sounds in the jaw joint, particularly if accompanied by pain or restricted jaw movement
- Individuals suffering from frequent tension headaches or migraines that have no clear neurological cause — TMJ dysfunction is often an overlooked trigger
- Patients who grind or clench their teeth (bruxism), which places excessive stress on the TMJ and surrounding muscles over time
What to Expect
The Treatment Process
Assessment & Diagnosis
Dr. Khurana performs a thorough evaluation of your jaw joints, bite, and facial muscles. This includes reviewing your symptoms and history, examining jaw movement and alignment, assessing for signs of bruxism, and taking X-rays or other imaging as needed to understand the condition of the joint structures.
Custom Treatment Plan
Based on the assessment findings, we develop a targeted treatment plan. For most patients this begins with a custom-fitted oral appliance (night guard or splint) that repositions the jaw, relieves muscle tension, and protects the teeth. Bite adjustments, physiotherapy referrals, or other interventions may be incorporated as needed.
Ongoing Management
TMJ treatment is a process, not a one-time fix. We schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your response to treatment, make appliance adjustments, and track symptom improvement. Most patients experience significant relief within weeks and we will continue to support you until your symptoms are well controlled.
